‘The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles is intended
as a practical manual for those seeking a rich future.
There is a Science of getting rich, and it is an exact
science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the
process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man,
he will get rich with mathematical certainty. And that it is
a natural law and
any man
or woman who learns to do things
in this certain way will infallibly get rich. This is so because opportunity is always there, may be
set in different directions. The author thereafter explains the first principle
of getting rich -thought is the only power which can produce tangible riches
from the Formless Substance that can think. Also, the old idea that there is a
Deity whose will it is that you should be poor, or whose purposes may be served
by keeping you in poverty must be got rid of.
If one follows this in full how will riches come to one, is
analyzed next. How thinking in a certain way is the absolute necessity is
explained here. For example, the author says, “it is the truth that there is no
such thing as poverty; that there is only wealth. Some people remain in poverty
because they are ignorant of the fact that there is wealth for them; and these
can best be taught by showing them the way to affluence in your own person and
practice”.
“But it is not thought alone”, author says, “Connect thought
with action”. How that will influence outcome and, the significance of
efficient approach is discussed next. Author places great importance on the correct
practice, by saying, “men and women who follow the foregoing instructions will
certainly get rich; and the riches they receive will be in exact proportion to
the definiteness of their vision, the fixity of their purpose, the steadiness
of their faith, and the depth of their gratitude.”
The advice given in the book is quits logical as well as
practical. For example, every man is
exhorted to give to every man a use value in excess of the cash value he
receives, so that each transaction makes for more life; and he must so hold the
Advancing Thought that the impression of increase will be communicated to all
with whom he comes in contact. Which assures seamless continuation of the
gainful.
