Why Kerala flood became a disaster?
Flood is not uncommon in Kerala State with so many rivers and regular monsoons. Dams have been constructed across many rivers with the idea to regulate flow, by storing excess water during the rainy season, and irrigating during summers. Making electricity out of this flow is an additional benefit. This system can work well, if the dams are kept sufficiently empty before monsoons, and the rain water is then collected to prevent floods. But it could not be so, since the dams were already full. This is where the cause lie.
