What is wrong with us?

GK Chesterton, in 'What is wrong with the world, mentions that the ills we face are due to our incorrect approach to social evils, something we picked up from the field of medicine, where we made quite a headway when we kept on examining each issue to its roots. But when it involves the social issues, this method is not a good one.  Like that of first dissecting abject poverty or cataloguing prostitution, before attempting a cure. See, we all dislike abject poverty. But what will result a thorough discussion will be certain ideas of independent and dignified poverty. Or take prostitution. An analysis about this issue could lead to a life of untouched purity. Both of which we do not want.
Therefore it is better to leave the social evil aside and put our attention to the desired social ideal.
(The idea of 'cause' in general is under threat from quantum theory, I understand)
